Service Description

The vagus nerve plays a key role in regulating the parasympathetic nervous system - “rest and digest” mode. Stimulating this nerve can help shift the body out of a heightened “fight or flight” state by calming the sympathetic nervous system. This results in easier breathing, lower cortisol levels, and an overall sense of relaxation. Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) was originally developed as a surgical treatment for conditions like intractable depression and Parkinson’s disease. Today, research has uncovered a wide range of additional benefits, and non-invasive options are now available like our gammaCore Sapphire device that we use in our clinic. These external devices work similarly to TENS units but are tuned to a specific frequency and waveform to effectively target the vagus nerve without the need for surgery. Prescriptions for take home devices are available for our patients who have an active plan of care, so if you're not already a patient, book your initial evaluation today and feel the benefits of VNS!
